‘Sheriffa’ Historic Tall Bearded Iris is a most distinctive Iris whose metallic finish on the flowers is quite an eye-catcher! The color is a very rich and brilliant metallic violet, a sort of iridescent purple with a strange blue cast and a distinct blue blaze on the falls.

An Onco-Regelia bred from Southern California. Although described as perfectly hardy, I’ve observed in our challenging April weather, which varies from warm days in the 60s-low 70s to hard freezes, the flower development can be damaged. This happened in my garden this year (2025). The first four budstalks were completely ruined / frozen. Fortunately, it’s vigorous and increases well. I have several clumps, so not all the bloom was lost.  ‘Sheriffa’ has tall stems reaching 3 feet or over with several very large flowers per stalk. It occasionally sets seed. Very satisfactory.
